Lazy Girls Film Club presents a singular classic from iconic French filmmaker Agnès Varda, plus a collage workshop earlier in the afternoon before the film themed around ‘Women Wandering’.
Sandrine Bonnaire gives a stunning performance as Mona, an enigmatic young woman whose body is found in the French countryside. Told in flashbacks, the film depicts the events leading to her death. She travels aimlessly, encountering many different people, pursuing independence at any cost. Her journey through rural France offers both freedom and danger, with the spectre of her impending fate ever present.
Lazy Girls Film Club programmer Eleanor says:
"Vagabond is a beautiful, mysterious classic by a unique artist. This complex portrait of a defiant woman features a fearless central performance alongside an array of memorable non-professional actors in supporting roles. The film’s legacy is especially evident in Alice Rohrwacher’s recent film La chimera, which was heavily influenced by Vagabond. I can’t wait to present it alongside a collage workshop exploring the film’s themes."
