Let's Talk Film is a new social film night at The Electric Palace, a regular space for film fans to meet up in Hastings and discuss all things film!
Whether you’re a budding cinephile or a seasoned filmgoer then this an inviting opportunity to share your love for cinema through informal discussion in an open space and take a closer look at the life and work of the auteurs of the big screen - the individuals behind the camera who have called the shots and crafted cinema experiences that have enthralled generations of moviegoers.
This month, we are exploring the life and work of the Coppola family in our Coppolas mini season. Sofia, her father Francis Ford, and her cousin Nicolas Cage have all made a significant impact on film culture in their own different ways, funded by the family wine company!
The evening will be a romp through Francis Ford Coppola's oeuvre, and Sofia Coppola's take on female figures from history, from Marie Antoinette to her recent Priscilla and look at the ways in which this family affair has nurtured and funded her talent.

- "I want to learn, I am a film ignoramus!"
- "I really enjoyed the scene deep dive bits. I enjoy the practice of trying to read a scene - the mise en scene, blocking, colour etc."
- "A great night of Let's Talk Film with Ben Newell and stimulating audience discussion. All things Carravaggio chiaroscuro to blood red lipstick from the rich palette of Powell and Pressburger. Don't miss next month's films and more discussion."
Doors open at 7pm for informal pre-talk chat.
Talk begins at 7.30pm.
Half time interval for discussion.
Talk concludes at 9.30pm.
Bar remains open until 10pm for further group chat.
Hosted by film historian Ben Newell, who has worked as a film festival supervisor and film programmer in a number of cinemas and festivals around the UK including the Edinburgh Film Festival, Glasgow School of Art and Lonsdale Cinema in Carlisle.
