BFI Film Academy SCENE are events that give space for young filmmakers and writers to watch new short films, learn from industry professionals and network with peers.

If you're aged 16-25 and looking to meet local like-minded people or perhaps even find your next collaborator, come along to this free event on 1 June.

We will be joined by writer/director Jess O'Kane, who will screen her short film 'Girl at Party'and then discuss her journey into filmmaking.

This is a great opportunity to get your questions about the film industry, directing and writing answered.

The event is for 16-25 year olds, and FREE, but you must register for this event to reserve your spot.

Includes refreshments and film screening.

About Jess O'Kane

Jess O Kane smilingJess O’Kane is the writer of BAD APPLES, which is currently shooting and stars Saoirse Ronan as a teacher making all the wrong choices.

The film was produced by Pulse Films and was acquired by Paramount for a 2025 release. Also in the pipeline are THROWBACK with Range Media Partners, ELDERS with Moonriver Content, GODDESS with Cineart / Isabella Films and THE VALE with Me + You. She previously co-wrote the highly acclaimed short film THE DEVIL’S HARMONY (2020), which was acquired by Disney+.

Jess made her directorial debut with the BFI-backed short GIRL AT PARTY, which won Best Film at Boundless Film Festival and premiered on Short of the Week. Her next short HEY SEXY, starring builders from Hastings, will release in Summer 2024.
