Micmacs
Thursday 29 May, 7pm
From the director of Amelie, this hilarious French comedy starring Dany Boon as an avid movie-watcher and video store clerk Bazil has had his life all but ruined by weapons of war and constructs a complex scheme for revenge that his newfound family is all too happy to help set in motion. With the full title in French literally meaning "non-stop shenanigans", Micmacs delivers more of the inventive silliness that director Jean-Pierre Jeunet is known for.
Les Choristes
This heartwarming story of Pierre, an aimless child at an austere boarding school in France where the students and faculty are constantly at odds with one another, until a music teacher, Clément Mathieu arrives and starts a choir. Clément -- who has troubles of his own -- tries to change the reactionary policies of the school, choosing instead to encourage his students. His efforts have a particular impact on Pierre, who shows great musical promise. Uplifting and joyous, if you have any sort of inclination towards things French, like a good story and enjoy listening to beautiful choral singing then this is the one for you! If you have any sort of inclination towards things French, like a good story, and enjoy listening to beautiful choral singing then this French film is the one for you.
