STORM THE PALACE! is a set of political documentaries curated by Hastings’ BAFTA Award-winning Producer/Director Archie Lauchlan.
“As a lecturer in documentary filmmaking, I would always start students’ 3-year courses by saying that if we acknowledge cinema’s unparalleled capacity to affect people, then it follows that a factual story told on film – with the potential to eclipse any fiction you could think of, simply because it’s true – has to be literally the most persuasive art form there is. Documentaries have the power to fundamentally change our minds. Each one in this series of political docs, then, is selected as a gold standard for not only informing and amazing us, but also for shining a light on how to construct an enthralling dramatic narrative out of factual content.”
To contextualise the documentaries selected for STORM THE PALACE! we begin with Archie and wife Jodie’s own production #RevolutionAnyone which is entirely Hastings-made and built around extracts from The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, a book unrivalled in its powers of political awakening, and also itself Hastings-made.
