Sparks fly between Errol Flynn and Bette Davis in this costume epic tracing the tempestuous relationship between the Earl of Essex and Elizabeth I.

This historical epic has the heart of a character piece with spectacular chemistry between Davis and Flynn. Curtiz always had an eye for human relationships, and he creates a palpable sense of loneliness and isolation in his framing of Davis. Trapped by tradition, power, and distrust, her Elizabeth is as much a tragic figure as the ill-fated Essex, each a sacrifice to the inhuman ideal of monarchy.

This much overlooked film was nominated for five Academy Awards; Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score.

All Sunday morning screenings include a free hot drink and biscuits with your ticket!
