In celebration of 50 years since the democratically elected government of Salvador Allende came to power in Chile.
 
A documentary that explores the relationship between culture and politics.
 
Introduced by the government of Salvador Allende (1970 to 1973) the initiative's aim was to bring culture closer to those who had no access to it.
 
The ‘People’s Train of Culture’ (also known as El Tren Popular de La Cultura), campaign wanted to create a National Institute of Arts and Culture and establish art colleges throughout Chile. The film examines the links with aspects of the educational and cultural initiatives of Spain’s Second Republic, such as the Pedagogic Missions, the Theatre of the People and the Theatre of La Barraca.
 
Doors open at 7pm and the film will screen at 7.30pm, followed by a Q&A hosted by Rossana Leal, with two guests who lived through and were active supporters of the Salvador Allende Popular Unity government.
