The Harder They Come + Jamaican food from One Love kitchen

Presented by The New Black Film Collective, see this cult Jamaican classic starring reggae star Jimmy Cliff as Ivanhoe Martin, a country boy who comes to Kingston to make it big in the music industry.

Hampered by payola and music industry corruption, Ivanhoe turns to ganja-dealing to try and make ends meet. Events spiral out of his control and he soon finds himself on the run from the police. The celebrated soundtrack is peppered with reggae classics by the likes of Toots and the Maytals, Desmond Dekker, The Melodians and Cliff himself who performs, among others, the title track and the timeless 'Many Rivers to Cross'.

As part of our Summer Music Season 2024 at this special screening we will be playing classic reggae tunes and keeping the bar open til late.

PLUS! We also welcome back St Leonards-based One Love Kitchen, serving great value, delicious, authentic Jamaican street food to buy before and after the film.

Gorge on buffet style Jamaican finger food including Patties (veg, lamb), fritters (vege), Jerk chicken, and dumplings (callalo, saltfish or akee). Plus come and try the Jamaican Rum Cake!

Doors open early at 7pm so come hungry!
