We are are thrilled (aptly enough) as part of our Art of Action season to welcome Nanni Cobretti, Italian writer and expert in Combat Cinema to host our Hong Kong Showdown, taking us through a short introduction to '70s and '80s Kung Fu cinema and Hong Kong Kung Fu icons Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan before our full screening of Police Story.

This is the perfect opportunity to find out everything you ever wanted to know about Hong Kong Action films but were afraid to ask! Nanni will be around before the screening to take questions and share cool trivia and info for fans and novices alike!

Come and see why Jackie Chan has been compared to Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, while also being heralded as one of Hong Kong's greatest entertainers alongside Bruce Lee and John Woo. Police Story follows Detective Chan Ka Kui, as he attempts to, clear his name after being framed for murder, catch a drug kingpin, and keep his girlfriend.

Directed by Chan, this film showcases some of his best choreography with overall incredible stunt work, daredevil jumps and car chases. Witness good old-fashion fighting skills with no wires and no CGI. Starring Jackie Chan, Maggie Cheung (In the Mood for Love) and Brigitte Lin.

Nanni CobrettiNanni Cobretti is the founder and director of I 400 Calci, an award-winning Italian web magazine dedicated to genre movies since 2009. He wrote three books about genre cinema and has a regular column in the Italian lead movie magazine Best Movie.

Most recently, he wrote the preface to a book about the phenomenon of Bruceploitation. In the UK, he collaborates with the Fighting Spirit Film Festival and has provided audio commentaries for 88 Films releases.
