Part Two of our Cult Cinema Weekend, curated and presented by David Tibet, of British hallucinatory supergroup Current 93, and his partner, visual artist Ania Goszczyńska.
This film is a modern occult-themed classic starring Steve Oran and Catherine Walker, and a uniquely disturbing slice of British cult cinema. Bereaved mother Sophia rents a house in the countryside of Wales and hires the occultist Joseph Solomon to contact her son, who she suspects was kidnapped and murdered by black magicians.
In the days that follow, Sophia follows the guidance of Solomon in rituals to purify her soul. However, Sophia has a hidden agenda that will jeopardize their lives. The ritual they perform is known as “The Sacred Magic Of Abramelin The Mage”, an occult rite—famously performed by magician (and Hastings resident!) Aleister Crowley at Boleskine House—to obtain “the knowledge and conversation” of the practitioner’s Holy Guardian Angel.
We are delighted that David Tibet will introduce the film in person, following his sold-out performances with Current 93 in Hastings and London.
We will also be displaying some of David’s and Ania’s original artworks as part of the Cult Cinema Weekend.
