Can you tell us about a film you have shown at the Electric Palace or at our film festival?
I think I started to reammerge out of my beaten shell in Hastings, I belonged to a small local group of film makers down here that Mark French ran, did it have a name the group Mark? Anyway it was like going back to the DIY way of film making again, it also made me realise that if I never make another film again it doesn't matter,
Do you remember a moment when your love for the moving image was sparked?
I first remember seeing an 8mm camera in a camera shop window in Swiss cottage, London in about 1970 ish, it was a cannon super 8mm camera, I don't know why I was drawn to it but I was, I think I realised I could record and re edit my life, I could capture light and dance with it, I wanted to make films, whatever a film was, I was 9 years old. I saved up for a year to get that camera, paid off a bit every week. Then the adventures began.
Is there a difference in producing films for a large screen or making work for online viewing?
As long as it's a good film it doesn't matter how it's made.
What I'm loving at the moment is that companies such as Netflix and Amazon and all the channels are upping their game, there's more outlets and financing out there, Plus technology has made it possible to shoot a feature film on your phone now. It's all more accessible if you want to...
Do live audiences in a cinema matter to you?
Live audiences mean a lot, its where the magic happens in you get the film right.
Has living in Hastings influenced your work?
Living in Hastings has definately affected my film making, it's given me the ability to step back and reassess things, made me more relaxed, fluid in a slower deeper way. The sea can do that?
