Father Mother Sister Brother (Subtitled) (15)
Jim Jarmusch’s all-star portmanteau flick showcases tense family relationships and emotionally distant parents. With Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling and Cate Blanchett.
This triptych shines a spotlight on the awkwardness of parent-and-grownup-child relationships, and the guilt, sadness and — sometimes — closeness involved. The three dramas take place in the US, Dublin and Paris, with a cult, all-star cast including Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Mayim Bialik, Cate Blanchett and Charlotte Rampling.
Enjoy tales of estranged siblings, a mystery unfolding in a lock-up of parental possessions and an ageing father (Tom Waits) whose poverty might just be fabrication. Like all the best Jarmusch films, this is perceptive, sad, but blackly funny stuff. And good preparation for the familial tensions of the festive season!
