Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (U)

Screen, Sunday 2 Aug 2026, 15:00  - ends at 17:07

The 1977 fairy-tale-in-space shown as a tribute to editor Marcia Lucas who died in May. Even more thrilling, fantastical and life-affirming on the big screen.

Marcia Lucas may not be a familiar name, but she was a film editor who shaped some of the most influential American films of the 1970s and early 1980s – including Star Wars, Medium Cool and Taxi Driver.

Marcia worked with Martin Scorsese on Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore (his first studio film). As her surname may imply, she edited some of the most ground-breaking films in cinema history, directed by her husband George, and collaborated on shaping characters and storylines.

If you came along to our recent edition of THX1138 you will appreciate how innovative Marcia Lucas’s approach to editing was, and so what better way to pay tribute to her than with perhaps the most seminal sci-fi film of the last 50 years: Star Wars.

Remembrance Sunday celebrates the life and craft of a recently passed
cinematic legend. On the first Sunday of each month, we pay tribute to
those who have made an impact in front of or behind the camera, and
whose work has inspired audiences and helped to shape modern cinema.
Devised and introduced by Ilona Cheshire, Film & Programme Consultant.
