'Reality Street' readings and performances

A regular event featuring poets, writers and musicians, begins at the Electric Palace this February.

Reality Street, based in Hastings since 2004, is an independent publisher of innovative poetry and prose. It will be hosting a regular event at the cinema, with two events coming up in February and March. See details and booking information for both events below.

Please note, all tickets for Reality Street events are £5.

Wed 19 Feb - 8pm

Philip Terry – A reading by the author of tapestry, an extraordinary novel retelling the story of the Norman Conquest from the point of view of the Bayeux Tapestry’s English embroiderers. Tapestry was shortlisted or the inaugural 2013 Goldsmiths Prize for fiction.

Ken Edwards – the publisher of Reality Street reads from his collection of fictions Down With
Beauty and from Bardo, a reimagining of the Tibetan Book of the Dead set in Hastings.

Elaine Edwards – Co-founder with Ken Edwards of local band The Moors, Elaine will perform on flute and accordion.

Trevor Watts - Reality Street.jpgChristopher Priest – Acclaimed author of several novels, including The Prestige, which was made into a major film in 2006, and winner of many awards, including the Arthur C Clarke Award and the James Tair Black Memorial Prize. Christopher Priest will talk about his work.

Paul A Green – Writer of poetry, fiction and drama, including  The Qliphoth, The Gestaltbunker and the occult/speculative fiction sequence Beneath the Pleasure Zones, will read from his recent work.

Trevor Watts (pictured, right) –  the noted jazz/free improvising alto and soprano saxophonist, co-founder of the legendary Spontaneous Music Ensemble, and sometime collaborator with Archie Shepp, Steve Lacy and Don Cherry, will perform solo.

Wed 23 April - 8pm

The third and final event will feature best-selling Reality Street poet Denise Riley, in a rare appearance; and Richard Makin, writer, poet and artist based in St Leonards, whose book Dwelling was published by Reality Street in 2011, and who will be performing in collaboration with visual artist Miranda Gavin.

Tickets are available in advance online from this website, or on the door.
Doors and the bar open at 7.15pm, screenings start at 8pm.
