Triple bill of groundbreaking Méliès films
See 'A Trip to the Moon', and more, accompanied by a live score.
On Saturday 23 January, at the slightly later time than usual of 8.30pm, in addition to 'A Trip to The Moon’ (pictured, right), we'll be screening ‘Kingdom of The Fairies’ and ‘Courtship Of The Sun And Moon’ by Georges Méliès. STEMS, a classical-infused art rock trio provide a live soundtrack to the trio of groundbreaking films, full of sweeping elegant darkness and hypnotic delicate intensity, originally commissioned by the British Film Institute in 2014.
With influences ranging from Sigur Ros and The Velvet Underground to Stravinsky and Arvo Part, STEMS have developed a reputation for intense and beautiful concerts. Their soundtrack for 'A Trip To The Moon' was recorded in Amsterdam and produced by Steve Whitfield (The Cure, Yann Tiersen).
