Movie character exhibition for Coastal Currents

A new exhibition of work by local artist and writer, Thom Kofoed, will be on show at the Electric Palace throughout this year's Coastal Currents 2013 festival.

Mark.JPGKofoed’s movie character illustrations are inspired by his favourite iconic characters from the big screen. “It started off as a separate project of 80s teen icons and quickly moved into iconic movie characters because I love the movies and I wanted to make paintings that celebrated that," says Kofoed. "The subjects become almost sacred and holy then, these Hollywood deities, and I really love that.”

With his quirky style of capturing the characters you’re guaranteed to crack a smile! There’s something for everyone – Back to the Future’s Marty McFly alongside indie heroines including Margot Tenenbaum and Samantha Baker.

Which character gets the most positive reaction and which the least? “Marty McFly and Alvy Singer tend to be favourites but it depends on people’s tastes. Mostly I get ‘You should have painted…’” says Kofoed.
