Book to Film club

Our Book to Film club continues on some Sunday afternoons with coffee and cake included in the ticket price.

About Book to Film Club

Writer and lecturer Dr. Shannon Smith, one of our brilliant volunteers, will host the discussions about the books and their film adaptations.

Screenings will be followed by a discussion about the book and its film adaptation. The post-film chats will always take place at the Electric Palace itself, unless stated otherwise, or a collective decision by club members is made on the night to move elsewhere.

Please note, you can still see the billed screening as usual even if you don’t want to take part in the Book to Film Club.

Far from madding crowd Julie ChristieFar From The Madding Crowd: Sunday 12 July, 3pm

Julie Christie stars in this adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 19th-century story of a woman's passion. Set in Victorian England, the film follows Bathsheba, a beautiful, independent
woman who runs the farm she inherited. She becomes romantically involved with three men: handsome and wayward soldier Frank (Terence Stamp); prosperous gentleman William (Peter Finch); and ever-patient shepherd Gabriel (Alan Bates).
